The office dolls D and S gave me a belated, but nonetheless lovely, birthday present after lunch at work today.
There’s something quite nostalgic about retro tin toys. They always seem very fragile, mostly manually detailed, and they often have those sweet echoes (subtle clinking sounds) of childhoods past. How kids can grow up these days without so much as a physical toy to really play with- small gizmos or tiny action figures to make up stories with- is beyond me. It’s a tragedy, really. Computer games these days, in a way, will rob children of that exquisite experience of make believe… this yellow stone is the Little Pony’s throne; the leafy alien is taking over the GI Joe camp! And that’s probably the only time one will ever be allowed to become anything and everything all at once- with toys and while playing.
Back to my gift! It’s really too precious for words. It’s one of the cutest things I’ve been gifted with. Thank you, thank you.
… And these whizzing aeroplanes will takes us places, my dears. So let’s go and see the world!
