On the rare occasion my colleagues and I venture out for lunch; climb down our office on a hill, we walk to the Toa Payoh public housing estates nearby where a smorgasbord of dining choices await. Stark contrast to the 2-3 options inside our friendly canteen up the hill.
Amidst hole- in- the- wall barber shops, small convenient stores, a wet market, busy hawker centers, there resides a quaint little ice cream and coffee shop called Creamier.
They have a nice variety of freshly churned ice cream which usually gets the job done after lunch at one of the food stalls around. Signature (i.e. Richest Dark Chocolate Ferrero, Rum and Raisin,Summer Strawberries, etc) Seasonal (i.e. Peppermint Candy, Lemon Yuzu, Earl Gray Lavender, etc), and Limited Edition (Ginger Marsala, White Peach Chardonnay, Chocolate Peppercorn, etc) flavours are there to choose from.
My palate being unadventurous as it is, I usually stick to my favourite Roasted Pistachio. Since Ben and Jerry’s has stopped carrying those in those tubs, this is where I get my Pistachio fix! Even Singaporean artist Francis Ooi thinks it’s hella good!
It’s most interesting to note that while surrounded by what seems to be the simplicity of everyday living (people’s fresh laundry hanging above, old people playing checkers, dogs being walked around), Creamier charmingly looks like it belongs in a museum’s front lobby. With modern interiors of exposed wiring and bare cement screed floor, it also houses art for viewing and sale. This month shows works from various Singapore- based artists including Francis Ooi (whose work I really like).
I must remember to pick something up from his collection for my parents’ house!
If this place weren’t so close to work and reminded me too much of the many rushed lunch breaks, I would love to come here more often. I really, really would!
